About Mary Hubley
Contemporary artist Mary Hubley is known for painting rich reflections of nature. Mary's impressionist and semi-abstract oil paintings are calm yet active, as she uses strong brushstrokes and soft edges in dramatic compositions. She often adds touches of reds or blues that add depth and interest to her stirring landscapes.
Hubley was brought up with a paintbrush in hand, being first taught by her artist mother, Idella Hallowell. Growing up immersed in the Philadelphia art scene, her mother's artist friends gave her private lessons in watercolor, oil, and plein air painting.
She worked for many years doing corporate illustration, and is an avid plein air painter. Her art has been influenced her extensive travels throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. She is an award-winning artist who gives classes and workshops, sells her work through several prominent galleries, and has been included in many collections worldwide.
